Carrie Krekoski, RDH, BDSc., MEd.
Carrie is passionate about caring for her patients and strives to deliver patient-centred, holistic care. She enjoys working as a clinician and educator. Carrie has been a part of the Aurora Dental Clinic family for years.
Carrie is a part-time Clinical Assistant Professor in the UBC Faculty of Dentistry and teaches in content areas related to communications, behavioural change sciences, and patient-centred care. As the Practice Education Manager for UBC Health, she supports the strategic planning, implementation and evaluation of interprofessional practice education initiatives at UBC. Carrie brings experience in rural health, healthcare regulation and team-based practice. She holds a Masters of Education from Simon Fraser University and a Bachelor of Dental Science Degree in Dental Hygiene from UBC. She is currently completing her doctoral degree at UBC.
In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her daughter, partner and large extended family. She loves to spend time in northern BC by the lakes and rivers. She also enjoys painting on canvas and making crafts with her daughter.
Karen Mah, CDAKaren is a highly skilled Certified Dental Assistant, and has been working at this office for over 21 years. She is highly knowledgeable and vital member of our clinic team. Karen received her certification in 1978 and completed her Orthodontic Module at UBC in 1990. In her spare time, she likes sewing, hiking and gardening. Karen loves animals, especially dogs.
Dr. Lucy Liu, DMD
Dr. Lucy Liu holds both dentist license and denturist license in Canada. She practices at Aurora Dental Clinic and works part-time as a Clinical Instructor at CDI College.
Dr. Liu has a passion for dentistry. She has studied and worked in different countries and loves meeting new people from diverse backgrounds.
Dr. Liu obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Dentistry at Shandong University in China and completed her Master’s in Dentistry with specialties in Oral Medicine and Periodontics at the same university. She then worked for 8 years as a Periodontist at the Dental Hospital of Shandong University, while acting as a lecturer and clinical instructor at the university’s Dental School. She continued her studies and in 2006 obtained her Doctorate of Dental Medicine from Heidelberg University in Germany. She then moved to Canada, where she worked as a postdoc and teaching assistant at UBC and practiced as an Associate at dental clinics throughout the lower mainland before moving on to practice at Aurora Dental Clinic.
Dr. Liu also provides one-on-one instruction for foreign-trained dentists studying for their board exams.
Dr. Yi Yang, Periodontist
Dr. Yi Yang is a board-certified Periodontist, fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada and diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. She received her periodontics training at Loma Linda University in the USA and gained extensive research experience in dentistry after completing her PhD studies at the University of British Columbia.
Dr. Yang teaches part-time as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Dentistry at UBC, and teaches periodontal continuing education courses in China where she was trained and worked as an oral surgeon. Her goal in practicing periodontics is to provide the highest standard of care to her patients and help patients maintain their oral health. In her spare time, Dr. Yang enjoys photography, travel and yoga.
Dr. James Hsia, BSc., DMD
Dr. James Hsia has practiced general dentistry since 1981. In his extensive career, he has helped many patients with TMJ (jaw joint), facial asymmetry, and complex orthodontic problems. A graduate of UBC, Dr. Hsia holds a BSc. in Biochemistry, and a DMD (Doctorate in Dentistry). Dr. Hsia is a strong advocate for using a natural conservative approach to improve his patients’ dental health and overall well-being.
As a trained orofacial myologist, Dr. Hsia believes in the importance early childhood orofacial muscle training and intervention to minimize the need for orthodontics later in life.
Dr. Hsia has two daughters. His eldest daughter is a chiropractor and teacher, and his youngest is a Prosthodontist in the faculty at the University of Washington. In his spare time, he restores classic cars and motorcycles. He also loves to go sailing and fishing with family and friends.
Priscilla Kaljanac, RDH
Prior to joining our team as a Dental Hygienist, Priscilla earned her Bachelor of Dental Science (BDSc) Degree from the University of British Columbia. As a healthcare provider, Priscilla is passionate about caring for her patients and strives to deliver the highest level of care through her practical approach, attention to detail and pure enthusiasm for her work.
In her own time, Priscilla enjoys traveling and spending time with friends and family, especially her husband Adrian and young son Brandon. Priscilla is also passionate about helping the less fortunate, and is actively involved in wildlife protection and animal welfare causes.
