Restorative
Restorative
Restorations are treatments that restore a tooth’s structural integrity and function. Fillings that blend in with the colour of your teeth are a common type of restoration.
Most people associate dental restorations with cavities (dental caries), which are caused by bacteria. But restorations can be needed for a number of reasons.
For example, a patient may need a restoration to seal up the tooth after root canal treatment. If your teeth are worn down by abrasion, chipped, or damaged in other ways, you may also need a restoration.
There are temporary and permanent types of restorations. Restorations can make your smile look better, and also help with important tooth functions, such as chewing.
Please note that our office does not offer ‘silver’ fillings (amalgam fillings). Amalgam fillings contain mercury, silver, copper, tin, and zinc, and have been banned in some countries. We prefer to err on the side of caution, and provide composite fillings in our office.
Endodontics
Endodontics
Endodontics, or endo, refers to procedures related to root canals and pulp capping. These are needed when there is a problem with the pulp or nerve inside of the tooth. We have a CBCT in house that helps us pinpoint endodontic problems.
Sometimes, the decay in a tooth goes so deep that it exposes the pulp inside of the tooth. Pulp Capping may help. A pulp cap is a special material placed in the tooth to prevent necrosis and discomfort from a filling touching the pulp.
Unfortunately, sometimes the pulp is already infected or necrotic and we need to perform a root canal.
A root canal may consist of several procedures and appointments.
We may ask the patient to do a CBCT, to check the tooth’s condition prior to starting a root canal.
Then, we do a pulpectomy, where the infected pulp is removed from the tooth’s root. Paper tips that release an anti-septic solution are placed inside the roots, and the tooth is sealed up with a temporary filling.
Depending on the severity of the infection, the patient may need to take antibiotics for several days before they can complete their root canal.
Then, we do shaping of the roots, to make sure the roots can be fully filled with no gaps. Then we replace the root with a special rubber-like material that mimics the dental pulp.
Finally, a restoration will be needed to seal up the tooth. In some cases, this will be a filling. In other cases, the final restoration will be a crown.
We often recommend crowns following root canal treatment. Root canal teeth are non-vital, which means they are often more brittle than vital teeth.
Periodontics
Periodontics
Periodontics treats conditions related to the gums, tissue, and bones supporting the teeth. We offer a wide range of periodontic services, which include:
Treatments for Gum Disease (Periodontitis)
Surgical and non-surgical treatments are available.
Periodontal Surgery
Procedures that treat severe inflammation around a tooth or teeth.
Gingivoplasty
Reshaping gum tissue to correct problems and deformities.
Bone Grafting
Surgeries that add bone material to regrow and strengthen bone in an area
Oral surgery
Oral surgery
We perform a wide variety of oral surgeries, including complicated wisdom tooth extractions. Our office currently does not offer sedation dentistry. All oral surgeries are performed under local anesthetic.
Implants
Implants
When a damaged tooth needs to be extracted, the best treatment option is often an implant.
Implants are a more permanent solution than removable dentures. They function more like natural teeth, and can help preserve the bone in the area around the missing tooth. We offer implant surgery and implant supported dentures.
Implants are a multi-stage process and healing time is needed between steps. It can take several months to complete an implant from start to finish. Sometimes, if there is not enough bone to support an implant, we will need to do a bone graft first, and wait for the bone to grow before we can start with the implant. Every implant case has unique factors, and the treatment plan may look slightly different.
Many insurance companies do not cover implants. However, the cost can be broken down and paid stage by stage.
Dentures
Dentures
Dentures are often the most cost-effective treatment to replace missing teeth.
A denture can restore some talking and chewing function, and can help teeth from crowding together to fill gaps.
There are many types of dentures. Dentures are highly specific to a patient’s needs. They will often last for a few years before they need to be replaced.
You may need training to get used to your dentures, and your dentures may need adjustments as the bone underneath continues to change over time. It is normal for dentures to take some getting used to. If you have any concerns about your denture, it may be time to book an appointment for an adjustment.
Prosthodontics
Prosthodontics
We offer a wide range of prosthodontic services including crowns, implants, dentures, and veneers.
Orthodontics
Orthodontics
Our dentists offer orthodontic treatments with invisible aligners and traditional braces. We use ClearCorrect as our clear aligner system. Orthodontics is a highly individual process. It often has multiple stages, and can range from a few months to multiple years, depending on the case. The first step is a consult, followed by a detailed ortho records appointment, so that the dentist can build your specific treatment plan.
